Joseph Banks and his party saw this species at: Otaheite, Society Islands (13 April-1 June and 4 June-13 July 1769) One of the handsomest of all Parkinson's illustrations, this shrub is found on many of the islands of south-eastern Polynesia, growing in the lowland areas behind the beaches.
